Spaceship: Shipping Automation vs steve | Fulfillment for Europefor Shopify (2026)
Both Spaceship: Shipping Automation and steve | Fulfillment for Europe are 5-star rated Shopify apps aimed at optimizing shipping, but they cater to distinctly different needs and geographies. Spaceship focuses on providing a shipping automation platform that allows merchants to compare rates and generate labels from multiple global carriers, streamlining the shipping process. Its strength lies in empowering merchants with control and cost transparency over their existing shipping operations across various carriers. steve | Fulfillment for Europe, on the other hand, offers a fully outsourced logistics solution specifically for the European market, emphasizing sustainable and efficient fulfillment within the EU, UK, and Switzerland. The primary difference lies in the level of involvement required from the merchant. Spaceship is a tool that enhances existing shipping workflows, while steve provides a complete outsourcing solution. Spaceship targets merchants who want to retain control over carrier selection and pricing, benefit from instant rate comparisons across various carriers, and manage their shipping in-house. steve, conversely, appeals to merchants seeking a hands-off approach, prioritizing sustainable practices, and leveraging a network of European logistical expertise without managing the intricacies of carrier selection and packaging themselves. The choice depends on whether a merchant prefers a software solution to manage their own shipping process or a complete fulfillment service focused on Europe.

Our Verdict
For merchants already handling their shipping in-house and looking to streamline the process with rate comparisons and label generation across a wide range of global carriers, Spaceship: Shipping Automation is the more suitable option. The one-click label generation and IOSS setup are particularly beneficial for EU shipments. Spaceship provides tools to enhance existing processes.
However, for merchants targeting the European market specifically and seeking a completely hands-off, sustainable fulfillment solution, steve | Fulfillment for Europe is the better choice. It eliminates the need to manage carriers, packaging, and routing, allowing merchants to focus on other aspects of their business. The focus on plastic-free packaging and climate-conscious shipping is a strong differentiator for environmentally conscious brands.
