Selling Point vs ThemeWatch ‑ Theme Backup Toolfor Shopify (2026)
Selling Point and ThemeWatch ‑ Theme Backup Tool both aim to empower Shopify merchants, but address drastically different needs. Selling Point focuses on the challenge of migrating or importing gift cards and store credits from other platforms, simplifying a potentially complex and time-consuming process. It caters to merchants switching platforms or consolidating sales channels who want to bring existing gift card balances with them. ThemeWatch, on the other hand, provides peace of mind by offering automated theme backups and change tracking. It's designed for merchants concerned about data loss from theme customizations, app installations, or accidental errors, offering a safety net to restore their store's appearance. The primary difference lies in their core function: Selling Point streamlines financial data migration related to customer loyalty programs, while ThemeWatch safeguards the visual design and code of a Shopify store. Selling Point addresses a one-time, albeit crucial, data migration need. ThemeWatch provides ongoing protection and version control for the store's theme. While both apps boast perfect ratings, the significant difference in the number of reviews (45 vs. 3) suggests Selling Point has a larger, more active user base and potentially a wider range of documented use cases.

Our Verdict
The choice between Selling Point and ThemeWatch depends entirely on the merchant's specific needs. Selling Point is ideal for businesses migrating to Shopify or consolidating multiple sales channels where transferring existing gift card and store credit balances is crucial. It offers a practical solution for a potentially complex data migration task. ThemeWatch is the better choice for merchants who prioritize safeguarding their store's design and code. It's particularly valuable for stores undergoing frequent theme customizations, integrating third-party apps, or simply wanting a reliable backup system to prevent data loss.
While both apps have 5-star ratings, the significantly higher number of reviews for Selling Point might suggest a more mature product or a broader user base. However, ThemeWatch addresses a fundamental need for almost every Shopify store, making it a wise investment for any merchant who values their theme's integrity and doesn't want to risk losing their design work.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to use?
Both apps appear to prioritize ease of use, with Selling Point emphasizing migration in minutes and ThemeWatch focusing on automated backups. Judging the actual ease of use would require hands-on experience, but based on their descriptions, both are likely user-friendly.
Does Selling Point backup my entire store?
No, Selling Point focuses exclusively on migrating or importing gift cards and store credits. It does not offer general store backup functionality.
Can ThemeWatch restore my theme if I accidentally delete a product?
No, ThemeWatch specifically backs up and restores the theme. It does not cover product data. Product data is a separate concern that requires a different type of backup solution.
Is Selling Point a one-time use app or ongoing service?
Selling Point is primarily intended for a one-time use scenario: migrating your gift cards and store credits. While it offers bulk generation of gift cards, its core value is in the initial data transfer.
Does ThemeWatch back up app settings?
ThemeWatch tracks changes caused by 3rd-party apps and can restore the changes with a click. It essentially backs up the theme code modifications performed by these apps, not the app's individual configuration settings within the app itself.
