PostCo Returns & Exchanges vs Protect for Shipments & Causesfor Shopify (2026)
PostCo Returns & Exchanges and Protect for Shipments & Causes both address aspects of post-purchase experience on Shopify. However, they cater to distinctly different needs and business models. PostCo, with a significantly higher rating (5/5) and a substantial number of reviews (79), likely provides a streamlined and well-received returns and exchanges management system. This suggests a focus on efficiency and a positive user experience related specifically to handling product returns and exchanges. This makes it suitable for merchants looking for a robust returns management solution. Protect, on the other hand, takes a broader approach, offering shipping protection, potential future protections, and a philanthropic angle. Protect's value proposition centers around offering customers peace of mind, increasing order value, and potentially contributing to charitable causes. Its business model is also unique: it handles customer service claims related to shipping and other protections and profits when claim costs are lower than fees collected from customers. This makes it an option for merchants interested in outsourcing customer service related to shipping issues, adding a philanthropic element, and sharing marketing exposure. The lower rating and fewer reviews (3.8/5 and 7 reviews) suggest it may be newer or have areas for improvement based on existing customer feedback. The business model is also unusual compared to typical Shopify apps, where merchants directly pay for a service and may be a barrier to some merchants adopting Protect.

Our Verdict
For merchants primarily concerned with streamlining their returns and exchanges process and ensuring customer satisfaction in that specific area, PostCo Returns & Exchanges is the clear choice based on its overwhelmingly positive reviews. Its core functionality directly addresses a fundamental e-commerce need.
Protect for Shipments & Causes is better suited for merchants looking for a more comprehensive solution that extends beyond returns and incorporates shipping protection, outsourced customer service for claims, and a charitable component. Its unique revenue-sharing model may appeal to some, but its lower rating and fewer reviews suggest merchants should carefully evaluate if the feature set aligns with their needs and expectations before adopting it.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up?
While impossible to know for certain without hands-on experience, PostCo is likely easier to set up due to its singular focus on returns and exchanges. Protect requires configuration of protection options and cause selections, potentially making it a more involved setup process.
Which app is better for customer satisfaction?
Both apps aim to improve customer satisfaction, but in different ways. PostCo focuses on streamlining the returns process, while Protect provides peace of mind through shipping protection. PostCo has the better rating and many more reviews, which implies a greater level of customer satisfaction among its users.
Which app costs less?
The cost structures are very different. PostCo likely has a subscription fee, though that is not stated in the data. Protect seemingly incurs no cost to the merchant if claim costs exceed fees collected. A merchant would need to analyze historical shipping claim rates to determine which would be less expensive.
Which app requires more merchant involvement?
PostCo likely requires merchants to manage their own returns and exchanges processes, even if it streamlines the process. Protect handles customer service claims, reducing the merchant's workload in that area.
Which app is more aligned with a socially conscious brand?
Protect for Shipments & Causes is explicitly designed for socially conscious brands, allowing merchants to allocate proceeds to their favorite causes or to help the planet. PostCo does not offer this feature.
