Partial Pay & Deposit: Downpay vs Scala Parcelamento Installmentfor Shopify (2026)
Partial Pay & Deposit: Downpay and Scala Parcelamento Installment, while both falling under the 'Payments' category on Shopify, serve distinctly different functions. Downpay focuses on enabling merchants to offer deposit and split payment options, managing the entire partial payment process directly within the store. It's designed for high-value, custom, or made-to-order products where extended lead times necessitate flexible payment plans. Scala Parcelamento Installment, on the other hand, concentrates solely on displaying available 'Buy Now, Pay Later' (BNPL) installment options to customers, enhancing product page information, but it doesn't handle any transaction processing itself. The key difference lies in transaction management. Downpay is a complete solution for collecting deposits and installments, integrating with Shopify Flow and APIs for advanced customization. Scala Parcelamento Installment is purely informational, designed to improve conversion rates by transparently showcasing BNPL plans, without managing the payments directly. Therefore, one app processes transactions and the other one doesn’t. This fundamentally affects the selection process based on merchant needs and existing payment gateway arrangements.

Our Verdict
For merchants who need a complete solution to manage deposits and split payments directly within their Shopify store, particularly those selling high-value or custom products, Partial Pay & Deposit: Downpay is the clear choice. It provides a robust system for managing the entire partial payment lifecycle, from initial deposit to final balance collection. Conversely, if a merchant already uses BNPL services like Klarna or PayPal and simply wants to improve conversion by clearly showcasing these installment options on their product pages, Scala Parcelamento Installment is the more suitable option. It's an easy-to-implement tool for transparently displaying available payment plans without altering transaction processing.
