Metafields Guru vs zento: AI descriptions & morefor Shopify (2026)
Metafields Guru and zento: AI descriptions & more are both Shopify apps in the Content category, aiming to improve storefront functionality, but they address vastly different needs. Metafields Guru is positioned as a comprehensive metafield management tool, allowing merchants to create, update, and display custom data without coding. Its strength lies in its robust feature set for data migration, backups, and bulk editing, appealing to merchants who need precise control over their product data and storefront design. zento: AI descriptions & more, on the other hand, focuses on AI-powered content creation. It's designed to generate product descriptions, SEO titles, and image ALT texts in bulk, specifically targeting merchants with large catalogs who need to automate and streamline content creation. The core distinction lies in their functionality. Metafields Guru helps structure and display existing or imported data, granting merchants control over how information is presented. zento.ai creates *new* data using AI, freeing up merchants time spent writing unique product descriptions. While zento.ai can generate metafields, its primary purpose is not their management or migration. The significantly higher review count of Metafields Guru suggests a more established presence in the Shopify app ecosystem, though zento.ai's focus on AI content generation could be a strong differentiator in 2026 as AI adoption continues to increase.

Our Verdict
For merchants primarily concerned with organizing, migrating, and displaying complex product data and needing granular control over storefront presentation, Metafields Guru is the superior choice. Its established reputation, comprehensive feature set for metafield management, and emphasis on data control make it a robust solution. However, for merchants struggling to generate unique product descriptions, SEO titles, and image ALT text, particularly those with extensive product catalogs, zento: AI descriptions & more is the better option. Its AI-powered content creation can significantly streamline workflows and improve SEO performance.
The selection hinges on the core need. Is it data management and display, or content creation? zento.ai's ability to create metafields is a bonus, but not its primary strength. Metafields Guru can't generate the content automatically; it's designed to help organize and display existing or imported information, including content that might be created elsewhere.
