IP Moat ‑ Counterfeit Defence vs Threadsfor Shopify (2026)
IP Moat ‑ Counterfeit Defence and Threads both aim to protect Shopify stores, but their approaches and target audiences differ significantly. IP Moat focuses heavily on anti-counterfeiting, implied in its name, suggesting it aims to protect intellectual property and prevent unauthorized sales. It currently boasts a perfect 5/5 rating based on 3 reviews. On the other hand, Threads takes a broader approach, offering a suite of tools designed to improve the overall customer experience and prevent theft. This includes features to nudge visitors towards purchasing, country/bot blocking, content protection, and usability enhancements like opening external links in new tabs and a scroll-to-top button. However, Threads suffers from a very low rating of 1/5 based on a single review, which is a crucial point to consider. While Threads offers a wider range of features beyond pure anti-counterfeiting, the extremely low rating raises serious questions about its functionality and usability. IP Moat, while focused on a narrower issue, may provide a more reliable solution due to its significantly higher rating, even with a small number of reviews. The choice between the two hinges on whether a merchant prioritizes comprehensive protection against counterfeiting or a broader suite of conversion-focused tools, balanced against user satisfaction reflected in the ratings.

Our Verdict
For merchants primarily concerned with protecting their intellectual property and combating counterfeiting, IP Moat ‑ Counterfeit Defence appears to be the better option, given its focus and significantly higher rating, though the small number of reviews warrants further investigation. The focus on counterfeit defense is a distinct advantage.
However, if a merchant is looking for a more general suite of tools to improve store security and drive conversions, Threads *could* be considered, but the extremely low rating (1/5) is a major red flag. It is crucial to thoroughly investigate user reviews and potentially test the app before committing, considering the overwhelmingly negative feedback. Unless the functionality is vital and no alternatives exist, IP Moat is the safer bet due to the poor rating of Threads.
