Geolocation Orbe vs SwiftRate ‑ Currency Converterfor Shopify (2026)
Geolocation Orbe and SwiftRate ‑ Currency Converter both aim to enhance the international shopping experience on Shopify, but they take different approaches. Orbe focuses on comprehensive geolocation capabilities, integrating with Shopify Markets and Global-e to redirect customers to the appropriate store version based on their location and language. It offers customizable popups and country selectors, making it a more feature-rich solution for merchants with complex multi-store setups. SwiftRate, on the other hand, prioritizes simplicity, concentrating on displaying prices in local currencies through automatic currency detection and real-time exchange rates. The key differentiator lies in the scope of functionality. Orbe offers geolocation, redirects, and market-specific content delivery, whereas SwiftRate is primarily a currency converter. Orbe is tailored for businesses utilizing Shopify Markets or Global-e and wanting to provide a fully localized shopping experience, encompassing language, currency, and potentially different product offerings. SwiftRate is better suited for merchants who simply want to display prices in local currencies without managing multiple storefronts or complex international logistics.

Our Verdict
For merchants heavily invested in Shopify Markets or Global-e and managing multiple localized storefronts, Geolocation Orbe is the clear choice. Its ability to redirect customers based on location and language, coupled with customizable popups and selectors, provides a more comprehensive solution for creating a truly localized shopping experience. The higher rating and significantly larger number of reviews also indicate a more positive user experience and greater reliability.
However, if a merchant simply wants to display prices in local currencies to build trust and increase international sales without the complexities of multiple storefronts, SwiftRate ‑ Currency Converter might suffice. While its rating is significantly lower and the number of reviews is minimal, its ease of use could be appealing. However, given the discrepancy in user feedback, thorough due diligence, including potentially trying the app with a trial before purchasing, is essential before opting for SwiftRate.
Common Questions
Does Geolocation Orbe automatically translate the entire website?
No, Geolocation Orbe primarily focuses on redirecting users to different language-specific versions of your store or displaying a customizable popup. It does not offer full website translation on its own but works with Shopify Markets settings. The description states it integrates with Shopify Markets for language switching.
Can SwiftRate handle dynamic pricing based on location?
SwiftRate primarily focuses on currency conversion using real-time exchange rates. It doesn't seem to handle more complex dynamic pricing strategies based on location beyond currency adjustments based on the information provided.
Which app is easier to set up and use?
Based on the descriptions, SwiftRate is likely easier to set up and use, focusing on automatic currency detection and real-time exchange rates. Geolocation Orbe, with its integration with Shopify Markets/Global-e and customizable popups, requires more initial configuration.
Which app offers better support for multi-currency checkouts?
Geolocation Orbe's integration with Shopify Markets suggests it would handle multi-currency checkouts more effectively, leveraging the native multi-currency capabilities of Shopify Markets. SwiftRate helps with the *display* of prices, but the checkout process would depend on your Shopify settings.
What happens if a user disables location services when using Geolocation Orbe?
Geolocation Orbe includes a country selector and language switcher, allowing users to manually choose their preferred store experience if automatic geolocation fails or is disabled. This provides a fallback option for users who prefer to override the automatic location detection.
