Geolocation Orbe vs MG ‑ Currency Converter Profor Shopify (2026)
Geolocation Orbe and MG ‑ Currency Converter Pro are both Shopify apps designed to enhance global sales, but they approach this goal with different focuses. Geolocation Orbe emphasizes a broader, more comprehensive approach to internationalization, leveraging geolocation to recommend specific store versions (built via Shopify Markets or Global-e) based on a user's IP address and browser language. It provides customizable popups and country selectors, primarily targeting merchants already utilizing multi-store setups or Global-e. MG ‑ Currency Converter Pro, on the other hand, focuses on currency conversion, providing a seamless experience by automatically detecting customer locations and converting prices into 180+ currencies. MG ‑ Currency Converter Pro centers around automatically adapting prices to the user's local currency, providing a clean, rounded presentation. While MG ‑ Currency Converter Pro boasts 'advanced settings,' its marketing emphasizes no setup, while Geolocation Orbe targets merchants looking for a more customized approach using Shopify Markets or Global-e. The app ratings also present a significant difference with Geolocation Orbe having a high rating and 250 reviews compared to MG ‑ Currency Converter Pro's absence of both rating and reviews.

Our Verdict
For merchants already using Shopify Markets or Global-e and seeking to optimize their multi-store setup by directing customers to the correct storefront based on location and language, Geolocation Orbe is the clear choice. Its focus on geolocation-based redirection and customizable popups offers greater control over the customer's initial experience. However, the merchant should be prepared for some configuration.
In contrast, if a merchant's primary goal is to provide a simple and automatic currency conversion experience without the complexities of multi-store management, MG ‑ Currency Converter Pro appears promising, emphasizing ease of use and a no-setup approach. However, the lack of any ratings or reviews in 2026 is a significant risk. Merchants should carefully consider this lack of social proof and possibly test the app extensively before committing to it. Considering the absence of reviews and high quality rating and reviews of Geolocation Orbe, the later is a safer choice.
Common Questions
Does Geolocation Orbe handle currency conversion, or does it just redirect to the correct store?
Geolocation Orbe primarily focuses on redirecting users to the appropriate store based on their location. While it integrates with Shopify Markets, which handles currency conversion, the app itself doesn't directly provide currency conversion. It enables Markets to function more effectively.
Is MG ‑ Currency Converter Pro compatible with all Shopify themes?
The app description does not explicitly state compatibility with all Shopify themes. Merchants should test the app with their specific theme to ensure seamless integration and display of currency conversions.
Does Geolocation Orbe require coding knowledge to customize the popups?
Geolocation Orbe allows customization of popups and the country selector via the theme editor, suggesting that basic coding knowledge isn't required for standard customization. However, advanced customization might require coding skills.
How accurate is the location detection of MG ‑ Currency Converter Pro?
The app description doesn't specify the accuracy of location detection. Accuracy may vary based on the customer's IP address and other factors. It is always advisable to conduct testing to ascertain accuracy.
What happens if a customer disables geolocation services on their browser? How do these apps handle that scenario?
Geolocation Orbe likely defaults to the store's default settings in such cases, potentially offering the country selector as a fallback. MG ‑ Currency Converter Pro would likely rely on default currency settings or prompt the user to select a currency manually. This detail isn't explicitly stated in the app descriptions.
