Flash Digital Downloads vs LinkIT ‑ Sell Digital Productsfor Shopify (2026)
Flash Digital Downloads and LinkIT ‑ Sell Digital Products both aim to simplify the sale of digital goods on Shopify. However, they approach this goal from fundamentally different perspectives. Flash Digital Downloads offers a comprehensive solution that handles file storage, delivery, and protection, targeting merchants who want a self-contained platform. It provides features like PDF watermarking, license keys, and custom file support, suggesting a focus on security and control over the digital asset. In contrast, LinkIT focuses on leveraging existing cloud storage and video platforms, catering to merchants who prefer to host their files elsewhere and simply sell access through Shopify. The primary differentiator lies in file hosting and security. Flash Digital Downloads provides its own hosting and security features, offering a higher degree of control and potentially simplifying setup for those without existing cloud infrastructure. LinkIT acts as a bridge, connecting Shopify to external services like Google Drive, YouTube, and Dropbox. This approach can be appealing to merchants already invested in these platforms, but it requires managing permissions and security settings independently on those services. The small number of reviews for LinkIT in 2026 suggests it's either a newer app or has a smaller user base than Flash Digital Downloads.

Our Verdict
For merchants prioritizing security, comprehensive features, and a self-contained solution, Flash Digital Downloads is the stronger choice. Its watermarking, license key generation, and built-in hosting provide more control over digital asset protection. This is particularly valuable for selling sensitive or high-value digital products. Its robust feature set might justify a potentially higher cost (though pricing information is unavailable).
LinkIT ‑ Sell Digital Products, on the other hand, caters to merchants already deeply integrated with cloud storage and video platforms. If a merchant already uses Google Drive to store their PDFs or YouTube to host their videos, LinkIT offers a convenient way to sell access without migrating files. However, merchants must be comfortable managing permissions and security on those external platforms. The minimal reviews indicate a possible higher risk or less established support, so merchants should proceed with caution.
Common Questions
Which app offers better security for digital products?
Flash Digital Downloads offers better security features with watermarking, license keys, and password protection built directly into the app. LinkIT relies on the security measures of the external platforms where the files are hosted.
Which app is easier to set up for someone new to selling digital products?
Flash Digital Downloads might be easier initially, as it provides its own hosting and doesn't require configuring external services. LinkIT requires linking to and managing permissions within platforms like Google Drive or Dropbox, which could be more complex for beginners.
Can I sell access to a private Facebook group with either app?
According to the descriptions, LinkIT explicitly mentions compatibility with selling access to a Facebook Group. Flash Digital Downloads does not mention this capability directly.
Which app is more scalable for large digital product catalogs?
Flash Digital Downloads claims to be "Built to scale", suggesting it can handle a large volume of products and downloads. The scalability of LinkIT depends on the scalability of the external platforms it relies on.
Does either app support selling software licenses?
Flash Digital Downloads mentions support for selling software and implies the ability to use license keys. LinkIT does not explicitly mention software licenses, although it could potentially be used if license keys are managed separately.
