Faire: Sell Wholesale vs Shopify Marketplace Connectfor Shopify (2026)
Faire: Sell Wholesale and Shopify Marketplace Connect both function as sales channel apps that integrate with the Shopify ecosystem. However, they cater to fundamentally different sales strategies. Faire focuses exclusively on connecting brands with independent retail buyers for wholesale purposes. Its value proposition lies in exposing brands to a curated network of retailers seeking unique products. Shopify Marketplace Connect, on the other hand, facilitates selling directly to consumers on large, established online marketplaces like Amazon, Target Plus, eBay, and Walmart. Shopify Marketplace Connect prioritizes breadth, allowing merchants to tap into massive existing customer bases and manage multiple sales channels centrally within Shopify. Faire focuses on a targeted wholesale approach, streamlining the process of connecting with independent retailers and managing wholesale orders. While Shopify Marketplace Connect excels at managing large volume, direct-to-consumer sales across diverse marketplaces, Faire offers a specialized solution for brands seeking to establish or expand their wholesale distribution network.

Our Verdict
The choice between Faire: Sell Wholesale and Shopify Marketplace Connect hinges on the merchant's business goals. If the primary objective is to establish or grow a wholesale business by connecting with independent retailers, Faire is the clear choice. Its platform is specifically designed for this purpose, offering access to a curated network and streamlined wholesale order management.
However, if the goal is to expand sales by reaching a broader consumer base through established online marketplaces, Shopify Marketplace Connect is the superior option. It provides a centralized platform for managing listings, inventory, and orders across multiple marketplaces, enabling efficient multi-channel sales. While Faire boasts a slightly higher rating, Shopify Marketplace Connect's significantly larger number of reviews suggests a more mature and widely adopted solution within its specific market.
Common Questions
What type of business is Faire better suited for?
Faire is specifically designed for businesses looking to sell wholesale to independent retailers. If your focus is on B2B wholesale distribution, Faire is the appropriate platform.
Which app is easier to set up?
Both apps claim to be easy to set up. Faire emphasizes 'simple setup and no commitments', while Shopify Marketplace Connect claims to be the 'fastest and easiest way to sell across marketplaces'. The actual ease of setup may depend on the complexity of the merchant's existing Shopify setup and catalog.
Can I use both apps simultaneously?
Yes, it is technically possible to use both apps simultaneously. A merchant could use Faire to manage their wholesale channel and Shopify Marketplace Connect to manage their direct-to-consumer marketplace sales. However, careful planning is needed to avoid inventory discrepancies and ensure consistent branding across all channels.
Which app provides a larger potential customer base?
Shopify Marketplace Connect likely offers access to a significantly larger potential customer base, as it connects to major marketplaces like Amazon, Target Plus, eBay, and Walmart. These platforms have massive existing user bases. Faire connects to a curated network of independent retailers, which is a smaller but potentially more targeted audience.
Does either app handle currency conversion?
Shopify Marketplace Connect explicitly states it has 'built-in currency conversion' for selling in all marketplace regions. There is no mention of currency conversion in the Faire app description.
