Our Verdict
If your main concern is branding your product images and deterring casual image theft while also highlighting promotions, Easy Watermarks | Engage is the better choice. The added benefit of syncing with Google Shopping is also a plus for businesses utilizing that platform. However, if you're more focused on preventing deliberate content scraping, especially text and images, and protecting your search engine ranking from duplicate content issues, RT: Disable Right Click is the more effective solution.
Choosing between the two depends heavily on the specific threat you're trying to address. For many merchants, a combination of both apps could be beneficial, as they offer complementary protection strategies. Easy Watermarks| Engage brands and deters casual copying, while RT: Disable Right Click offers stronger security against dedicated content theft.
Common Questions
Does Easy Watermarks | Engage fully prevent image theft?
No, while watermarks deter theft and make it harder to use stolen images, they don't completely prevent determined individuals from removing them. RT: Disable Right Click offers an extra layer of protection by removing the ability to easily download images.
Does RT: Disable Right Click affect the user experience?
Potentially. Disabling right-click and copy-paste can be frustrating for legitimate users. Consider the impact on user experience before implementing this app. A carefully designed user interface that makes it clear why these functions are disabled can help mitigate this issue.
Can I use both apps simultaneously?
Yes, both apps can be used on the same Shopify store as they target different aspects of content protection. Easy Watermarks | Engage adds watermarks, while RT: Disable Right Click restricts copying and saving. They provide complementary security features.
Does Easy Watermarks | Engage work on all image types?
The app description doesn't specify limitations on image types, but it's best to test with different image formats (JPEG, PNG, GIF) to ensure compatibility. Larger, more complex images might impact the processing time during auto-watermarking.
Is disabling right-click a sufficient measure to prevent content theft?
No, disabling right-click is a deterrent, but tech-savvy individuals can still access the content through other means, such as viewing the page source or using browser developer tools. RT: Disable Right Click includes additional features, such as disabling printscreen, to provide more robust protection.
