Deposit & Partial Payment Depo vs TryOnify: Try Before You Buyfor Shopify (2026)
Deposit & Partial Payment Depo and TryOnify: Try Before You Buy represent distinct approaches to payment flexibility within a Shopify store. Depo focuses on enabling partial payments, deposits, pre-orders, and draft order management, aiming to increase Average Order Value (AOV) and reduce Return To Origin (RTO) for COD orders. It caters to merchants needing flexible payment schedules and pre-order functionality. TryOnify, on the other hand, introduces a "Try Now, Pay Later" model, deferring payments during a customer's free trial. This is designed to sustainably acquire new customers and reduce cart abandonment by removing immediate financial barriers to purchase. The core difference lies in their philosophies: Depo offers multiple payment options for goods immediately purchased or pre-ordered, while TryOnify emphasizes a free trial period before payment. Depo caters to merchants needing to manage deposits and payment schedules, while TryOnify seeks to convert hesitant shoppers into buyers through risk-free product trials. The target audience for Depo is merchants selling goods where deposits or payment plans are common (e.g., custom items, furniture), while TryOnify targets businesses that want to reduce friction to purchase and build trust through product trials.

Our Verdict
For merchants seeking to implement deposit systems, manage pre-orders effectively, handle draft orders with payment plans, or reduce RTO for COD, Deposit & Partial Payment Depo is the better choice. Its comprehensive features cater to businesses that require flexible payment terms and deposit management. On the other hand, if the primary goal is to acquire new customers by removing purchase barriers and offering risk-free trials, TryOnify: Try Before You Buy is more suitable. TryOnify focuses squarely on converting hesitant browsers into buyers through a 'try before you buy' approach, which can be particularly beneficial for products where customers may have reservations about fit, feel, or suitability. While TryOnify has a higher rating, the low review count suggests it might be a newer app or caters to a niche market; Depo has a larger established user base as suggested by its review count.
Common Questions
Which app is better for reducing cart abandonment?
TryOnify is specifically designed to reduce cart abandonment by removing the immediate payment hurdle and offering a free trial. Depo might indirectly help by offering payment flexibility, but its primary focus is on deposit and partial payment management.
Can I use both apps simultaneously?
Potentially, but it depends on the specifics of your products and target audience. Using both might introduce payment complexities that confuse customers. It's best to test both individually to determine which aligns better with your business goals or to use one for certain product categories and the other for others.
Does Deposit & Partial Payment Depo support subscriptions?
The description mentions pre-orders but does not explicitly state that subscriptions are fully supported. Contact the Depo developers to confirm if it integrates with popular Shopify subscription apps.
How does TryOnify ensure payment after the trial period?
TryOnify automatically collects payment at the end of the trial period and uses credit card authorizations to ensure payment on time. It also offers credit card reauthorization for extended trial periods.
Which app is easier to set up?
TryOnify claims "Quick & easy setup". Depo's setup might be more complex due to its wider feature set, but this would depend on the specific needs of the merchant and their comfort level with configuring payment options.
