Deposit & Partial Payment Depo vs Koin Cashback & Store Creditfor Shopify (2026)
Deposit & Partial Payment Depo and Koin Cashback & Store Credit, while both falling under the 'Payments' category on Shopify, target fundamentally different aspects of e-commerce. Deposit & Partial Payment Depo focuses on flexible payment options and order management, allowing merchants to offer deposits, pre-orders, split payments, and COD options. It also supports draft orders and automates invoice sending, catering to businesses that need to manage complex payment schedules or offer pre-sales. The card vaulting feature is an especially compelling selling point. In contrast, Koin Cashback & Store Credit centers on customer retention and loyalty. It empowers merchants to incentivize repeat purchases through cashback and reward programs powered by Shopify-native store credit. Koin provides tools for setting cashback rates, automating reward issuance via Shopify Flow, and managing store credit across customer accounts. This makes it well-suited for businesses looking to boost customer lifetime value and foster brand loyalty. The app also supports B2B Shopify Plus stores, extending its applicability. The significant difference lies in their primary objective: Depo optimizes the initial sale and order fulfillment process, while Koin concentrates on post-sale engagement and encouraging repeat business. The 'Payments' category is therefore a little misleading; Depo handles payments, while Koin provides a virtual currency for incentives.

Our Verdict
For merchants primarily concerned with offering flexible payment options like deposits, pre-orders, split payments, or managing COD orders effectively (reducing Return To Origin costs), Deposit & Partial Payment Depo is the superior choice. Its features directly address these specific needs and provide tools for managing complex payment schedules. The card vaulting feature is particularly useful.
However, if the main objective is to cultivate customer loyalty and drive repeat purchases through cashback and reward programs, Koin Cashback & Store Credit is the more suitable option. Its focus on store credit, automated reward issuance, and customer segmentation makes it a powerful tool for building long-term customer relationships. Furthermore, its support for B2B Shopify Plus stores broadens its appeal to larger businesses.
