Color Swatch King: Variants vs FlexCon Product Rental, Hirefor Shopify (2026)
Color Swatch King: Variants and FlexCon Product Rental, Hire cater to entirely different Shopify merchant needs, despite both appearing in the 'Custom products' category. Color Swatch King focuses on enhancing the product browsing and selection experience for products with multiple variants (color, size, etc.). Its strength lies in visually appealing and intuitive variant selectors, features like color swatches on collection pages, and tools for efficient variant management. It targets merchants selling physical goods with variations who want to improve conversion rates by making product options easier to understand and select. FlexCon Product Rental, Hire, on the other hand, is designed for businesses operating a rental service. It provides tools for managing rental inventory, scheduling, pricing, deposits, and order lifecycles. Its core value proposition is streamlining the rental process and preventing common issues like double bookings. FlexCon's features are centered around smart calendars, real-time inventory tracking, and security deposit rules. While it shares the 'Custom Products' category due to the ability to customize rental options, its target merchant is fundamentally different, focusing on rental businesses rather than traditional retail.

Our Verdict
For merchants selling products with multiple variants (color, size, style), Color Swatch King: Variants is the clear choice. Its high rating, substantial number of positive reviews, and feature set tailored to visual variant selection make it a strong contender for improving the shopping experience and boosting conversion rates. The free setup assistance is a significant bonus.
FlexCon Product Rental, Hire, despite its lack of reviews, is the only option for businesses offering product rentals. While the absence of user feedback is a risk, its feature set directly addresses the unique challenges of rental businesses. If you need rental management features, FlexCon is your only option. Carefully assess your specific rental needs and consider reaching out to their support team for a demo and clarification on features before committing.
Common Questions
Can I use both Color Swatch King and FlexCon Product Rental on the same store?
Potentially, but it's unlikely to be beneficial. They solve completely different problems. You would only consider this if you sold some products with variants using the former, and also rented other completely separate products using the latter.
Which app is easier to set up?
Color Swatch King is likely easier to set up, especially with their offer of free setup assistance. FlexCon will likely require a more involved setup process to configure rental schedules, pricing, and deposit rules.
Does Color Swatch King handle rental products?
No, Color Swatch King focuses solely on enhancing the display and selection of product variants. It doesn't offer any rental-specific features like scheduling, inventory management for rentals, or deposit collection.
Does FlexCon Product Rental allow me to display color swatches on my product pages?
While it's technically possible that it allows some level of customization, its core features are centered around rental management, not variant visualization. It's unlikely to offer the same robust color swatch functionality as Color Swatch King.
Which app is better for improving my store's SEO?
Neither app directly focuses on SEO. However, Color Swatch King could indirectly improve SEO by providing a better user experience, leading to lower bounce rates and higher time-on-site, which are positive SEO signals. FlexCon does not offer features that directly impact SEO.
