Categories Uncomplicated vs Relewisefor Shopify (2026)
Categories Uncomplicated and Relewise address the "Search and navigation" category in Shopify but target fundamentally different needs. Categories Uncomplicated focuses on improving category organization and SEO by allowing merchants to create hierarchical categories and sub-categories, visualized with icons and breadcrumbs, all while integrating with Shopify's existing navigation. This benefits merchants who want to improve their product discoverability through better structured navigation and SEO optimization. Relewise, on the other hand, concentrates on AI-powered personalized search and product discovery. It helps merchants connect their Shopify store to a Relewise dataset, import their product catalog, and add search and recommendation blocks within Shopify's theme editor, enhancing the customer experience through personalized results. The core difference lies in their approach: Categories Uncomplicated structures existing data for easier navigation, while Relewise leverages AI to personalize the shopping experience. Categories Uncomplicated provides a visual and structured approach to navigation while Relewise offers dynamic and personalized results. The choice between the two depends largely on the merchant's priority - structured navigation and SEO or personalized product discovery. It's important to note that Relewise currently has no reviews, suggesting it might be a relatively new offering, while Categories Uncomplicated has a perfect rating, albeit with a smaller sample size of reviews.

Our Verdict
For merchants primarily concerned with improving the organization and discoverability of their product catalog through a structured, visual hierarchy, Categories Uncomplicated is the clear choice. Its focus on categories, sub-categories, breadcrumbs, and SEO enhancement directly addresses this need. The high rating (5/5) despite relatively few reviews indicates users are happy with its core functionality.
If, however, a merchant is more focused on providing a personalized shopping experience using AI and is willing to adopt a newer, unproven (no reviews) app, Relewise could be a worthwhile experiment. Relewise would be best for stores looking to dynamically adapt to user behavior and offer tailored search results and recommendations. Given the zero reviews, merchants choosing Relewise should carefully monitor its performance and potential impact on their store's conversion rates.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to install?
Both apps emphasize ease of installation. Categories Uncomplicated offers drag-and-drop installation for Shopify 2.0 themes. Relewise focuses on a simple connection to the Relewise dataset and requires no custom coding within the theme editor. Merchants with older 1.0 themes will need to manually code Categories Uncomplicated into their theme.
Which app is better for SEO?
Categories Uncomplicated explicitly focuses on improving SEO metadata by providing dynamic JSON-LD. Relewise does not directly mention SEO benefits in its description, although improved user experience and conversions could indirectly contribute to SEO performance.
Which app is more data-driven?
Relewise relies heavily on data to personalize the customer experience using AI, tracking behavior and adapting recommendations in real-time. Categories Uncomplicated is more structural, organizing existing product data into a logical hierarchy rather than actively analyzing user behavior.
Which app is better for stores with a large number of products?
Both apps can be beneficial for large product catalogs. Categories Uncomplicated helps organize those products for easier navigation, while Relewise personalizes the search and recommendation experience, helping customers find relevant items more efficiently.
Does Relewise replace the Shopify search?
Relewise appears to integrate and enhance the Shopify search functionality by adding a layer of AI-powered personalization. It doesn't replace the fundamental search system but rather augments it with personalized results and recommendations.
