BST‑Frequently Bought Together vs Sales Motivator ‑ Free Giftsfor Shopify (2026)
BST‑Frequently Bought Together and Sales Motivator ‑ Free Gifts are both Shopify apps designed to increase sales through upselling and bundling, but they employ different strategies. BST‑Frequently Bought Together focuses on AI-powered product recommendations based on co-purchasing behavior, mimicking the 'frequently bought together' model popularized by Amazon. Its strength lies in its automation, seamless integration, and customizable design. It seems aimed at merchants who want a hands-off approach to cross-selling and a polished, professional look. Sales Motivator ‑ Free Gifts, on the other hand, uses the incentive of free gifts to encourage larger purchases. It allows merchants to create targeted 'Gift With Purchase' (GWP) offers based on cart value, specific product purchases, or customer segments. It emphasizes granular control over offer conditions and customization of gift-related messaging. This app appeals more to merchants who want a highly customizable and targeted promotional strategy centered around free gifts.

Our Verdict
For merchants who want a largely automated, visually-driven cross-selling solution that recommends complementary products, BST‑Frequently Bought Together is likely the better choice. Its AI-powered recommendations and Amazon-style design offer a more passive, yet potentially highly effective, approach. However, if the goal is to actively incentivize customers to spend more with targeted free gift promotions based on specific conditions, Sales Motivator ‑ Free Gifts is superior. Its granular control and focus on free gifts make it ideal for merchants with strategic promotional campaigns.
Ultimately, the best app depends on the merchant's preferred sales strategy. If the merchant's product catalog lends itself well to obvious pairings and they want a hands-off approach, BST wins. If the merchant wants to actively manage promotions around the concept of 'free', Sales Motivator is the superior tool.
