BL External Links Button vs Snowball: Affiliate Marketingfor Shopify (2026)
BL External Links Button and Snowball: Affiliate Marketing cater to different needs within the Shopify ecosystem, despite both falling under the "Affiliate programs" category. BL External Links Button, boasting a perfect 5/5 rating, likely focuses on a simpler functionality - adding external links - based on its name. The low number of reviews (9) suggests it might be a newer app or one with a niche focus, potentially on ease of use and direct linking capabilities. This would appeal to merchants wanting a straightforward way to guide customers to external resources without a full affiliate program setup. In contrast, Snowball: Affiliate Marketing, with a 4.7/5 rating and a substantial 174 reviews, is positioned as a comprehensive affiliate marketing solution. The higher review count indicates a mature app with a wider user base and potentially a richer feature set encompassing affiliate recruitment, tracking, and management. Its lower, though still high, rating could be due to the complexity inherent in managing an affiliate program, leading to a steeper learning curve or more opportunities for user errors. This suggests it's aimed at merchants seriously investing in affiliate marketing as a customer acquisition channel. The core difference likely lies in complexity and scope. BL External Links Button likely offers basic link functionality, while Snowball offers full affiliate management.

Our Verdict
If you simply need to add external links from your product pages or other areas of your Shopify store without managing affiliates, BL External Links Button is likely the better choice. Its high rating (though based on a small sample size) suggests users find it effective for its presumed function. The low review count may also indicate it is newer, or very simple to use requiring little need for support.
For merchants committed to building and scaling an affiliate marketing program, Snowball: Affiliate Marketing appears to be the superior option. The much higher review count demonstrates its established presence and usage within the Shopify ecosystem. While the rating is slightly lower, the large number of reviews suggest this could be due to the complexity of affiliate marketing rather than a fault of the app itself. Choosing Snowball depends on the merchant needing affiliate management functionality.
