Avada GDPR Cookies Consent and MLV Auto Currency Switcher, while both categorized under 'Internationalization' on Shopify, cater to vastly different needs. Avada GDPR focuses on legal compliance related to user data and privacy laws across various regions, offering cookie consent banners, policy generators, and integrations with tools like Google Consent Mode v2. It positions itself as a comprehensive solution for merchants targeting customers in regions with stringent data privacy regulations like Europe (GDPR), the US (CCPA/CPRA), Brazil (LGPD), Canada (PIPEDA), and Japan (APPI). Our Verdict
If you're a merchant primarily concerned with complying with data privacy laws like GDPR, CCPA, or similar regulations in other countries, Avada GDPR Cookies Consent is the clear choice. Its features are specifically designed to address these compliance requirements, and its integrations with GCM v2 and other tools are invaluable.
On the other hand, if your focus is on expanding your reach to international customers and improving their shopping experience by displaying prices in their local currency, MLV Auto Currency Switcher is the better option. It simplifies the process of currency conversion and provides a visually appealing and user-friendly experience. For merchants needing both, they would need to install both apps, as they solve distinct but related problems.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up?
MLV Auto Currency Switcher is likely easier to set up, as its primary function is currency conversion, which is less complex than managing data privacy compliance. Avada GDPR requires configuring consent banners and policies based on specific legal requirements, which can be more involved.
Do these apps conflict with each other?
No, these apps do not directly conflict. They address different needs. A merchant can use both; Avada GDPR handles data privacy, while MLV Auto Currency Switcher manages currency conversion.
Which app is more important for a store operating only in the US?
If the store only operates in the US, MLV Auto Currency Switcher offers little benefit, as there is no need for currency conversion. Avada GDPR still offers value due to CCPA and other US state privacy laws. However, the compliance needs may vary depending on the business's practices.
Which app has better customer support?
Avada GDPR explicitly mentions '24/7 SUPPORT' in its headline, suggesting a strong emphasis on customer service, although MLV Auto Currency Switcher may also provide adequate support. Without more information, it is difficult to definitively say which has superior support based on the data.
How does Checkout Extensibility affect these apps?
Avada GDPR's compatibility with Checkout Extensibility allows it to integrate its cookie consent banner directly into the checkout flow, providing a seamless user experience while adhering to privacy regulations. MLV Auto Currency Switcher mentions working with Shopify Payments to checkout in the customer's local currency, suggesting it takes Checkout Extensibility into account indirectly. However, since it already does this, any further extension of checkout does not have much effect on the currency conversions.
