Auto Purchase Orders vs Craftybase Inventoryfor Shopify (2026)
Auto Purchase Orders and Craftybase Inventory, while both in the 'Inventory' and 'Inventory Optimization' categories on Shopify, cater to significantly different merchant needs. Auto Purchase Orders focuses on streamlining the purchase order process, particularly for dropshipping and multi-vendor scenarios. Its strength lies in its robust automation capabilities, including automatic PO generation from Shopify orders, vendor communication, and accounting integration. It targets merchants who primarily need efficient purchase order management and inventory replenishment from external suppliers. Craftybase Inventory, on the other hand, is designed for small-batch manufacturers who need to track raw materials, production processes, and finished goods. Its value proposition centers around providing accurate Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) calculations and streamlining internal production workflows. Auto Purchase Orders excels in external supply chain management, offering features like automated dropship PO generation, combining orders into single supplier POs, and direct vendor email communication. It also boasts API/webhook support for integration with warehouse and ERP systems. Craftybase Inventory shines in internal inventory control, offering features like bill of materials management, batch and lot tracking, and real-time synchronization of shop floor stock levels with sales channels. While Auto Purchase Orders offers features valuable to those involved in purchasing from vendors, Craftybase focuses on those that create products themselves. Ultimately, the choice depends on whether the merchant's priority is efficient purchasing and external supply chain management (Auto Purchase Orders) or detailed tracking of internal manufacturing processes and COGS (Craftybase Inventory).

Our Verdict
For merchants heavily reliant on dropshipping or purchasing from multiple vendors, Auto Purchase Orders is the clear winner. Its focus on automated PO generation, vendor communication, and integration with accounting software like Xero and QuickBooks makes it a powerful tool for streamlining the purchasing process. However, for merchants involved in manufacturing their own products, especially small-batch producers, Craftybase Inventory is the better choice. Its emphasis on tracking raw materials, managing production processes with batch and lot tracking, and calculating COGS provides essential insights for profitable operations. Ultimately, the 'better' app depends entirely on the merchant's business model.
