AR: Buy GTINs/UPC/EAN barcodes vs Progus Store Locator Mapfor Shopify (2026)
AR: Buy GTINs/UPC/EAN barcodes and Progus Store Locator Map are two distinct Shopify apps targeting different aspects of a merchant's business. AR: Buy GTINs focuses on product listing compliance and visibility on platforms like Google Shopping by providing merchants with GTINs. Its primary strength lies in simplifying the process of acquiring these barcodes, although it's explicitly stated that these are non-brand registered and may not be suitable for all marketplaces like Amazon or Bol. Our Verdict
The choice between AR: Buy GTINs/UPC/EAN barcodes and Progus Store Locator Map depends entirely on the merchant's specific needs. If a merchant is struggling to get their products approved on Google Shopping due to missing GTINs, and they don't require brand-registered codes, then AR: Buy GTINs is the more suitable option. The included test barcodes are a crucial feature for merchants to ensure compatibility. However, if a merchant operates physical stores or has a dealer network, Progus Store Locator Map is the clear winner. It provides a valuable tool for directing customers to those locations, improving sales, and reducing customer support overhead.
Common Questions
Can both apps improve my sales?
Yes, but in different ways. AR: Buy GTINs can indirectly improve sales by increasing product visibility and approval rates on marketplaces. Progus Store Locator Map directly improves in-store sales by guiding customers to physical locations.
Are both apps easy to install and use?
Both apps claim to be easy to use. AR: Buy GTINs automates GTIN addition, while Progus Store Locator Map boasts quick installation and a bulk import system. The ease of use is highly dependent on the user's technical proficiency.
What happens if I need brand registered GTINs?
AR: Buy GTINs explicitly states that its codes are not brand registered. If you need these, this app isn't suitable, and you will need to seek GTINs directly from GS1.
Does the Progus Store Locator Map require any coding knowledge?
The app claims quick installation without an API key, which suggests minimal or no coding knowledge is needed for basic setup. However, advanced customization may require some technical skills.
Are these apps compatible with all Shopify themes?
While neither description mentions theme compatibility explicitly, it's common for Shopify apps to work with most themes. It is always best practice to check for known compatibility issues for both apps before purchase.
