AppsByB: Backup & Restore vs Theme Accessfor Shopify (2026)
AppsByB: Backup & Restore and Theme Access both aim to improve Shopify store operations, but target drastically different needs. AppsByB focuses on data security and management, offering store backups, data syncing, and product copying across multiple stores. This app is positioned as a crucial tool for merchants concerned about data loss, accidental edits, or managing multiple Shopify environments. Its strength lies in providing peace of mind and streamlining operations for stores that heavily rely on consistent and backed-up data. Theme Access, on the other hand, addresses the need for secure theme development collaboration. It facilitates granting theme-only access to developers without the risks associated with creating full staff accounts. Its core value proposition is secure and streamlined theme customization. The primary difference lies in their target audiences and functionalities. AppsByB caters to merchants with complex data management needs, particularly those running multiple stores or regularly updating products and content. Theme Access, however, is geared towards stores that frequently engage with theme developers or agencies for customization and maintenance. While both apps boast perfect ratings, AppsByB has a significantly higher number of reviews, suggesting a broader user base or longer presence in the market. The choice between the two depends entirely on whether a merchant needs robust data backup and syncing capabilities or a secure way to grant theme access to developers.

Our Verdict
The choice between AppsByB: Backup & Restore and Theme Access hinges on a merchant's specific needs. If data security, backup, and multi-store management are priorities, AppsByB is the clear winner. Its features cater directly to preventing data loss and simplifying operations for stores with complex product catalogs or multiple storefronts. However, for merchants primarily concerned with managing theme customizations and collaborating with developers securely, Theme Access is the superior choice. It provides a streamlined and secure way to grant limited access without compromising overall store security.
In short, AppsByB is for data-conscious merchants, while Theme Access is for those focused on secure theme development. A store could potentially benefit from both apps if it has both data security concerns and a need to regularly engage with theme developers, but they address entirely different pain points.
