AppsByB: Backup & Restore vs EPR Insightsfor Shopify (2026)
AppsByB: Backup & Restore and EPR Insights address very different needs for Shopify merchants. AppsByB: Backup & Restore focuses on data security and store management, offering backup, restore, and data synchronization capabilities across multiple stores. It's targeted at merchants who frequently update their product catalogs or manage multiple Shopify instances and require a reliable data safety net. Conversely, EPR Insights is designed to simplify compliance with Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulations in Europe. It automatically collects and organizes the data needed for EPR reporting, aiming to save merchants time and reduce the risk of costly fines. The key differentiator lies in their respective functionalities. AppsByB prioritizes data protection and operational efficiency through backup and sync, while EPR Insights focuses on regulatory compliance. AppsByB appeals to merchants concerned with data loss and inter-store data management, while EPR Insights targets merchants selling in Europe who are subject to EPR requirements. The stark difference in ratings and reviews also suggests a more established and positively received user base for AppsByB, at least based on the limited available data.

Our Verdict
The choice between AppsByB: Backup & Restore and EPR Insights hinges entirely on the merchant's specific needs. If data security and efficient management of multiple Shopify stores are paramount, AppsByB: Backup & Restore is the clear choice, supported by its existing (albeit limited) positive user feedback. Its ability to create and schedule backups, coupled with its data synchronization capabilities, makes it a valuable asset for merchants handling significant product changes or managing multiple sales channels.
Conversely, EPR Insights is essential for merchants selling in Europe who need to comply with EPR regulations. While it lacks reviews and ratings, its focus on automating data collection and simplifying EPR reporting is a critical requirement for avoiding costly fines and ensuring regulatory compliance. The custom rule setup might present a steeper learning curve, but the potential savings in time and compliance costs could outweigh the initial investment. Until there are reviews to support otherwise, merchants should fully vet EPR Insights before implementation.
