AdRoll Marketing & Advertising vs Peel: Retention Analyticsfor Shopify (2026)
AdRoll Marketing & Advertising and Peel: Retention Analytics, while both appearing in the Shopify Ads category, address fundamentally different aspects of a merchant's business. AdRoll focuses on acquiring new customers and retargeting existing ones through multi-channel advertising (display, native, mobile, video, CTV), leveraging programmatic predictions and audience segmentation. It's a full-funnel advertising solution emphasizing brand awareness and driving purchases. Peel, on the other hand, is a retention analytics platform providing deep insights into customer lifetime value, churn, and subscription growth, aiding in optimizing repeat purchases and customer loyalty. Peel aims to turn raw Shopify, subscription, and marketing data into actionable growth plans. AdRoll targets merchants looking to expand their reach and drive sales through broad advertising campaigns, while Peel caters to those prioritizing customer retention and long-term profitability through data-driven insights. AdRoll offers a suite of advertising tools, while Peel offers a suite of analytic tools. The core difference lies in their objectives: acquisition and retargeting (AdRoll) versus retention and lifetime value optimization (Peel). Both contribute to revenue growth, but through very different strategies and operational focuses.

Our Verdict
For merchants primarily focused on expanding their reach, acquiring new customers, and retargeting existing ones across various advertising channels, AdRoll Marketing & Advertising is the more suitable choice. Its multi-channel advertising capabilities and AI-powered bidding engine offer a comprehensive solution for full-funnel marketing. However, for merchants prioritizing customer retention, subscription growth, and long-term profitability, Peel: Retention Analytics is the better option. Peel's robust analytics and customer segmentation features provide valuable insights for optimizing retention strategies.
While AdRoll's higher review count suggests a larger user base, Peel's perfect rating indicates potentially high satisfaction among its users, albeit with a smaller sample size. Ultimately, the choice depends on the merchant's specific business goals and priorities. If the goal is acquisition, choose AdRoll. If it's retention and lifetime value, choose Peel.
Common Questions
Which app is better for tracking customer lifetime value (LTV)?
Peel: Retention Analytics is explicitly designed for tracking LTV and provides detailed analytics on this metric. AdRoll focuses on advertising performance and doesn't offer the same depth of LTV analysis.
Which app is better for running retargeting ad campaigns?
AdRoll Marketing & Advertising specializes in retargeting ad campaigns across multiple channels. Peel does not directly offer ad campaign functionalities but integrates with platforms like Meta to enhance ad targeting based on retention data.
Can AdRoll help me identify high-value customer segments?
AdRoll offers audience segmentation features, allowing you to target specific segments with your ad campaigns. However, Peel's RFM analysis provides a more granular and in-depth approach to identifying high-value customer segments based on purchase behavior.
Which app provides automated reports and dashboards?
Peel provides automated daily Slack/email digests and customizable dashboards for tracking key retention metrics. AdRoll offers reporting and analytics focused on advertising performance and ROAS.
If I'm a new Shopify store with a limited budget, which app should I prioritize?
Prioritize understanding your customer base first. If you have very few customers, AdRoll won't have much to retarget. Peel provides a more foundational understanding of your initial customer behavior, which informs future advertising efforts. However, a full advertising strategy may need to wait until some baseline retention metrics are established.
