Accessibility Way ADA WCAG EAA vs AgeCheck 18+: Age verificationfor Shopify (2026)
Accessibility Way ADA WCAG EAA and AgeCheck 18+: Age verification both fall under the 'Legal' Shopify category, but cater to vastly different needs. Accessibility Way focuses on ensuring website accessibility and compliance with accessibility laws like ADA, WCAG 2.2, and Section 508, targeting merchants who want to avoid lawsuits and provide an inclusive shopping experience. It boasts a 5-star rating and 9 reviews, indicating some level of user satisfaction. AgeCheck 18+, on the other hand, is designed for age verification, likely targeting merchants selling age-restricted products. However, it currently has a rating of 0/5 and zero reviews, suggesting it's either very new or hasn't garnered positive feedback. The primary difference lies in their functionality: Accessibility Way aims to make a website usable by people with disabilities, while AgeCheck 18+ restricts access based on age. Accessibility Way provides features like AI-powered alt text, screen reader compatibility, and customizable accessibility widgets. AgeCheck 18+ is geared towards compliance for businesses with age-sensitive merchandise, and the absence of user reviews leaves its reliability and ease of use unverified. Choosing between the two depends entirely on a merchant's specific legal and business requirements. One seeks to be inclusive, the other restrictive, each in its own right, as necessary.

Our Verdict
For merchants primarily concerned with ensuring their website is accessible to users with disabilities and compliant with accessibility laws, Accessibility Way is the clear choice. Its features like AI-powered alt text, screen reader compatibility, and customizable accessibility widgets provide substantial value in improving website accessibility and minimizing legal risks. The positive, albeit limited, user reviews further support its usefulness.
AgeCheck 18+ may be suitable for merchants selling age-restricted goods, but the lack of reviews makes it difficult to assess its reliability and effectiveness. Until it gains some positive traction from users, it's hard to recommend. If a merchant needs age verification, they should also look for alternative age verification apps with positive reviews or wait until AgeCheck 18+ demonstrates its value.
