Common Questions
Which app handles international shipping rates directly?
Neither app directly calculates international *shipping rates* using carrier APIs. ShipZip focuses on customizing domestic shipping rules; Zonos manages the *duties and taxes* associated with international shipments, often used with your existing shipping rates.
Does either app offer real-time carrier rate calculations?
ShipZip requires Carrier Calculated Shipping API, implying that it *can* work with real-time rates if the merchant has that enabled. Zonos connects to your existing carrier accounts but focuses on duties and taxes, not basic shipping rate calculations.
Which app is better for a small business just starting out?
It depends on their market. If they are selling only domestically, ShipZip may be beneficial as they grow and need more control over shipping costs. If they intend to sell internationally from day one, then Zonos would be a better fit, to avoid compliance issues.
Can these apps be used together?
Yes, potentially. A merchant could use ShipZip for domestic shipping rules and Zonos for international duty and tax calculation. They address different aspects of the shipping process.
What happens if Zonos calculates duties/taxes incorrectly?
Zonos pays the discrepancy, removing the burden of reconciliation or dispute from the merchant, according to its description.
